Regardless, whether Beuys is pulling his felt blanket taut around him or jauntily waving to Aiken\u2019s camera lens, it\u2019s impossible to look away.&#8221;<\/p><cite><em>Brett Sokol, from the foreword to<\/em>&nbsp;An Artist, a Coyote, and a Cage<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Reviews are In<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Forbes <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Matthey Carey Salyer explored the book in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/mattsalyer\/2024\/06\/29\/you-like-it-it-likes-you-stephen-aikens-coyote-photographs\/\">review of June 29th, 2024<\/a> describes Joseph Beuys performance that was called <em>I like America and America Likes Me<\/em> (also known as <em>Coyote<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Through July, Provincetown\u2019s Schoolhouse Gallery will be exhibiting a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsy.net\/show\/the-schoolhouse-gallery-amy-arbus-david-x-levine-jo-sandman-han-feng-stephen-aiken?page=2&amp;sort=partner_show_position\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sequence of photographs<\/a>&nbsp;taken by conceptual artist, Stephen Aiken, during Beuys\u2019s three-day performance. Aiken\u2019s sequence \u2018agitates,\u2019 straddling lines between the production and observation of artistic \u2018action.\u2019 In documenting Beuys\u2019s famous performance, Aiken reframes the scope of&nbsp;<em>I Like America<\/em>\u2019s questions.<\/p>\n<cite>Matthew Carey Salyer &#8211; Forbes<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Arts Fuse &#8211; Boston&#8217;s Premier Online Arts Magazine<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Charles Giuliano writes &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/artsfuse.org\/289124\/book-review-50-years-ago-a-cage-match-between-artist-and-coyote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Few if any are aware that,&nbsp; 50 years ago, for three days in Manhattan, the German artist Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) created one of the art world\u2019s legendary \u201cactions\u201d (performance art pieces<\/a>).&#8221; in his 27 May 2024 review. Giuliano relates the book to the story of action and says this: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Then \u2014 and now \u2014 the art world doesn\u2019t know what to make of his work, particularly in this highly theatrical vein. We should be grateful for&nbsp;<em>An Artist, A Coyote, and a Cage<\/em>, which documents an important moment of aesthetic\/political dissent.
